“That fire took away my father, but this amulet is the key to finding him and bringing him home.” - Arlynn Klein
|
Arlynn grew up in a manor in the woods with her father and mother. Dr. Magnus Klein, her human father, was a medical researcher and best doctor in the area while her elf mother, Faelynn, was a skilled hunter and would often hunt prey for the village near the woods for money. Every day, Arlynn would spend her mornings with her mother learning about the woods and the magic of her lineage. And in the afternoons and into the evenings, she would learn about science and medicine from her father.
Arlynn loved her father and she aspired to be like him one day, a researcher of science and magic. She was curious about the effects of certain magic and how it can be fused with science to create a new way of casting spells. She would mix chemicals together and then infuse the concoction with magic to see what special effects the potion could produce. Arlynn would bring that special mixture to her father, where he praised her for her discovery and presented his own works to Arlynn. Fascination shone in her eyes and she resolved to grow up quickly and become his special assistant. |
Arlynn had noticed that her father was becoming more stressed and tired recently. His latest project was not cooperating like he wanted it to. Dr. Magnus was trying to create a teleportation amulet that could store the teleportation spell in the device and when activated, can transport the user to the destination of their choice. With the creation of the amulet, he would be able to teleport to a patient’s house in the matter of seconds, reducing the time needed to travel.
When her father was taking a nap on his desk in his office, Arlynn snuck into the lab where the gold amulet was stored. She saw this as an opportunity to help her father out by finishing the amulet for him. She grabbed a potion from her collection of brews and started adding them one by one to see if they will get the desired result. As she kept on adding potion after potion, Arlynn wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings and knocked over an electric potion and fire potion and when the two mixtures touched on top of the gold amulet, an explosion erupted and flames consumed everything in sight.
Screaming in fear, Arlynn rushed to get away from the ever growing fire, calling out for her father to save her. A crash sounded from the entrance of the room as her father busted down the door. When he reached her, Arlynn explained what had happened; her eyes glistened with tears but she could not cry because of the heat of the room. After explaining what the two of them will do to escape, Magnus scooped Arlynn into his arms and rushed for the exit.
Right as they were finally going to reach the front door, Arlynn heard a cracking sound coming from above her and before she could register what the noise was, she flew out the door and into the front yard. She quickly turned around for her father, but only the sight of the collapsed support beam remained. Devastation filled her as she scrambled to reach her father, but a pair of strong hands grabbed her, preventing Arlynn from going back into the blazing building. Arlynn sobbed into her mother’s arms, upset at the loss of her father.
Years after the fire accident, Arlynn decided to return to the lab. She looked around the remains of her burnt home and took in the damage that remained from the fire. Upon entering, she was quite surprised at the condition of the room; the lab was still intact with only scorch marks from the flames as evidence of the accident years ago. But something caught her eye as she scanned the room. There in the center of the charred room was a golden amulet where the supposed fire originated. Arlynn picked up the amulet only to see a vision of a new realm, one of blue skies, red buildings, and what appears to be a jade celestial snake. When a sudden image of her father, alive and older than she remembered, she dropped the amulet in fright, startled by what she saw in the vision. Her father was alive?! That changes everything. Arlynn was determined to find her father and bring him home. After regaining her bearings, she collected her things, wrote a note to her mother, and grabbed the amulet into her hand. Deep down, Arlynn knew that this amulet, the one in the palm of her hand, was responsible for transporting her father to another dimension, and thus will transport her there too. She put it on, and with a flash of light, she disappeared from her home dimension and into the new world.

When she had arrived in the new world, she first took notice of the vivid azure sky that hung above her. After years of growing up in the woods, Arlynn had grown accustomed to the dark and shady trees hiding the sky away. Looking around, she could tell that she was in a different dimension, probably one where her father was taken. As she explored the town, she uncovered key information that could lead to his whereabouts. First, she was on an archipelago in the Eastern Lands. The kingdom she landed in was home to the Eastern Kingdom, one that revered the Jade Dragon as their emperor. Second, she can’t leave this island alone. The trip is expensive, and without a clear destination, there is no reason to board a ship and leave without being truly prepared. And third, Arlynn knew her father would explore the nations of the world for information, known or lost. There is a probable chance that he was here too, so there should be evidence of his existence in this kingdom. Finding traces of Magnus here is better than wandering around in hopes of finding him.

With that in mind, Arlynn began her search for information while working odd jobs to survive. With her previous knowledge on magic and science, she was hired at an apothecary, creating potions and balms with the medical knowledge from her father, where she continued to work until she had enough money and information to leave the country in search of her father.
